Luton airport staff protest over job cuts

Luton Airport staff from a no-frills airline are set to protest over cutbacks that will put more than 200 jobs at risk.

Cabin crew and flight staff from easyJet, along with their families, will march through Luton to demonstrate concerns over planned cuts at the town's airport.

The budget airline has blamed a planned 20% reduction in services at Luton airport on a breakdown in talks about future airport charges between the airline and the airport's owners and the local council.

Earlier this month the company announced plans to close its East Midlands Airport operation and reduce services at Luton airport by 20%.

Protesters will march through the town dressed in orange in a bid to highlight their fears.

The group will march from St Mary's Church to the Town Hall where they will present a letter of complaint to the leader of the council.

They also plan to let off 565 balloons, which represents every job they claim is at risk.
